Benchmark Community Bank Named #43 on American Banker's Top 100 List

July 5, 2024 - Benchmark Bankshares, Inc. is honored to announce that Benchmark Community Bank has been named to the list of the nation's top 100 community banks with assets under $2 billion. Benchmark Bankshares, Inc. is the holding company for Benchmark Community Bank, headquartered in Kenbridge, VA.

"On behalf of the over 230 individuals who call Benchmark their work home, it is gratifying to once again be recognized for our solid performance," said President/CEO E. Neil Burke. "Our employees work hard each day to build relationships that stand the test of time. It is this foundation that evolves into a tradition of outstanding performance. We are both humbled and proud to be recognized for these efforts."

American Banker magazine, the recognized leader in financial industry publications, publishes the annual Top 100 Community Banks list that ranks financial institutions based on a three-year average of their return on average equity. Previously listing the top 200 community banks, the number of eligible institutions was reduced to 100 this year as recent consolidation in the industry has led to fewer community banks. There are now approximately 4,700 community banks throughout the United States of America.

The annual analysis is conducted by Capital Performance Group, a Washington, D.C.-based financial services consulting firm. For the period 2021-2023, there were 361 community banks included in the under-$2 billion-asset category. Of the five Virginia banks ranked in the top 100 for 2024, Benchmark Community Bank ranked the highest, coming in at #43.

This marks the 18th consecutive year that Benchmark has earned a place on this list.

Benchmark Community Bank is the sole subsidiary of Benchmark Bankshares, Inc., which trades under the symbol BMBN on the OTC Pink marketplace. Founded in 1971, the bank has 17 branches throughout Southside Virginia and northern North Carolina.
